You don't have to show that stuff, Can't you show us some respect

Email exchange between me and the General Manager of WSET (local ABC affiliate):

My Email:
This email is in regard to promotions for the Oprah Winfrey Show that aired today, Saturday August 19, during Saturday morning programming aimed at children and rated accordingly. I was watching with my three daughters, ages 9, 9 and 5, when promotions for upcoming Oprah winfrey shows regarding teachers having sex with their students and 13 year olds having sex aired. I changed the channel quickly, but am sure that my daughters heard as much as I did. Airing promos for the Oprah Winfrey Show and other adult themed shows during programming intended for children is intirely inappropriate and irresponsible. In the future, I would hope that you would ensure that the content of the commercials and promos that you run is appropriate to the shows during which they are being aired.

General Manager's Response:
Thanks for bringing this situation to our attention. We have taken steps to further reduce the liklihood of this happening again.

Happy Birthday To...

Angela!

I hope she enjoys the cake I'm staying up all night to bake :)

Someday maybe I'll do what normal people do when their co-worker is celebrating a birthday and stop by the grocery store on the way to work and buy a cake.

Roll with it baby

So, last week I took the girls with me to a group dinner at a friend's house - the menu was Japanese and everyone pitched in. Our task was dessert and we opted for green tea ice cream and Pocky(see quiz below). Despite our labors, the ice cream didn't turn out (the freezer had thawed too much by the time I got around to freezing it) but the Pocky was definitely a hit (especially with Haley). The girls did a great job rolling sushi for the first time thanks to Manu's patient instruction. Mattie stuck to veggie rolls, but both Grace and Haley opted for more adventurous (i.e. raw fish) fare. I was proud of each of them for making and eating their own rolls - they did a excellent job! It was a great evening with awesome food and company to match - can't wait for the next gathering!
