You Belong in Barcelona

When it comes to Europe, you don't want to decide between culture and fun. You want art by day and a big party by night.
Barcelona is ideal for you. You can check out some Picasso, eat some tapas, take a siesta, and then dance all night!

This is my mistake, let me make it good

Yep, I owe my readers - feel free to collect anytime!

I promise I'll provide a detailed blog on the trip to Costa Rica - hopefully over the weekend. For recaps of the Nashville trip refer to My Meandering or to the life of jil. Definitely my worst marathon performance yet. For the first time I was unable to run the complete course. Guess the lack of running in Costa Rica really hurt me. That and the wind along the course - I'm not sure how it managed to always be a headwind even though the course is a loop. The one bright spot was the part of the course that I usually hate - the park - since the trees blocked much of the wind. Oh well, it was still a very enjoyable weekend with friends. I even enjoyed the Phil Vasser concert, though the country rap opening act was a bit much for me. The only real downer to the whole weekend was the very noticible absence of Kitty Twitty (though I didn't miss her titty twisters). Nashville just isn't the same without her!

Last week was a great one for the future of my city (in my humble opinion). The three independent candidates that I supported all won City council seats! Karyn and I had hosted an event at our house for one of them and were invited to join them as they watched the results come in. As a political science major, it was exciting to be part of that and to watch the advisors work the phones to get the latest results before they were announced on TV. It was also fun to be part of the atmosphere that took over when it became clear that they had won.

Grace's and Mattie's 2nd season of softball is underway and they are enjoying that. This year the girls pitch and it is fun to watch them develop the unique softball pitching style. Neither Grace nor Mattie has any interest in becoming a pitcher - too complicated!

Haley celebrated her 5th birthday May 1st! She and I made her cake out of Costa Rican cocoa from the plantation that we visited and she was in heaven. She also received the movie Narnia from her sisters which made it a perfect birthday for her. One of her gifts was also the game Trouble. We've played it a couple of times and she beat me both times. Yesterday she asked me if I wanted to play and then said "I'll go easy on you." Geez, I must be getting old...
