We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Well, another successful stint as Santa Claus (aided greatly by Mrs. Claus) has ended, so glad the pressure is off! We did have one minor incident when one of the girls got very upset that the gift she most wanted, a Slurpee machine, had not been delivered by Santa or by her parents. She didn't know that Santa had subcontracted that job out to her Nana, who delivered the goods Christmas night - then all was right with the world! Everyone seemed to have received the gifts that they most wanted.

We survived having my family over to our house for dessert on Christmas night (24 of them, in addition to the 5 that already live here). I had jokingly said in an email that all of my brothers and sisters were going to have to share their favorite childhood Christmas memory and that each of their spouses was going to have to sing a song (trust me, you don't want me or my siblings singing out loud). Well, this joke revealed that me and my siblings have mostly blocked our Christmas memories, so there was really nothing to share except this realization that we have no memories. It also resulted in my Mom buying me a karaoke machine so look out next time I have a party...

My big Christmas gift was an iPod. I've been busy surreptitiously using my daughters' Christmas gift, a computer, to load my CD collection into iTunes and onto my iPod. This has been a fun experience; reconnecting to music I haven't listened to in awhile and seeing what genre iTunes puts an album/artist into (Enigma and Expose are both Electronica/Dance, REM alternates between Rock and Alternative&Punk, Elvis Costello is Pop). I always knew that I had eclectic tastes, but this process seems to have provided proof. So far, these are the genres of music that I've loaded (according to iTunes): Alternative&Punk, Blues, Country, Electronica/Dance, Hip Hop/Rap, Jazz, Latin, New Age, Pop, R&B, Rock, Soundtrack, and World. Soon I'll have my entire collection easily accessible, all but the part that I still have only on vinyl, and I'll see what other genres pop up on the list.

I hope you all received the gifts that you most wanted and that 2006 is your best year yet!
